Aside from MAPS and other assessments which the District has discussed with parents, my curiosity got the best of me so I am trying to understand and navigate through the maze of information to determine how, exactly, my kindergartner will be evaluated academically under the new standards as a result of common core this and in following years. So, I came across some info that others might find helpful and decided to share it.

For anyone interested, here are the new requirements triggering AIS (Academic Intervention Services) together with a copy of an RTI (Response to Intervention) guide for parents. It should be noted, in a follow up memo, the State gave schools deference in dealing with borderline students as to whether or not to designate the student “at risk” and in need of services, FYI. I havent posted that memo but I believe there is an article from Richard Trent somewhere below about that subject.
